This is the reboot of our COVID canceled production.

Casting was completed in 2020, but due to scheduling issues, etc., we have a few roles to recast.

Looking forward to revisiting this show with all of you!

    • Thrilled to announce that we are now cast for "The Sound of Music" (again!). Grateful, as always, to every artist who submitted and those who  joined us live. Your work, heart and efforts were very much appreciated.

REHEARSAL SCHEDULE UPDATE (the following may still change, but keeping you updated as we go...)

Tuesdays-Fridays

Rehearsal for adults: 12 Noon - 8pm

Rehearsal for kids (under 18): 4pm - 8pm (first day of rehearsal may start at 3pm for the kids). Tech week is TBD, but kids will be needed for full days.

Saturdays & Sundays

Rehearsal for adults: 10am - 6pm

Rehearsal for kids (under 18): 10am - 3pm​​

    • If you are an adult, you will follow the adult (not the children's ) rehearsal schedule.

  • PARENTS AND KIDS:

So looking forward to seeing lots of familiar AND new faces for this! I know that you all want to do your very best, but it's strongly recommended that you NOT coach your kids with this material (vocal coaching okay, but not the sides). I will be looking at all of the videos and promise that it is much better to keep it unrehearsed. I will absolutely reach out with any adjustments and notes. Run lines with them for sure, but leave the rest up to us. We are looking for real kids with heart and smarts. Enjoy and my sincerest thanks for sharing your little (and not so little) ones with us.​

  • FAQ:

    • With very few exceptions, this cast will be LA based. Please let us know, in advance, if you do not have LA housing. 

    • There will be Equity and Non Equity Contracts

COVID PROTOCOLS

  • In order to keep our Artists and team safe, we will require a fully-vaccinated workplace, which means that all members of the company. All actors (von Trapp Children as well), crew members, musicians, and staff must be fully vaccinated. There are no exceptions.

  • We will also require weekly testing,.

  • All Actors who attend Live Auditions need to be fully vaccinated. We will be asking for proof of vaccination.

1st rehearsal: 4/5  Open: 4/22   Closing: 5/15

CONTRACTS

Equity COST $913 weekly

Non Equity: $476 weekly. with EMC points.

Children: Paid volunteers $550 total.

 

REHEARSAL AND PERFORMANCE SCHEDULE

Days and time are subject to change, but this is more than likely what our schedule will be:

 

REHEARSALS: La Mirada at the Rehearsal Hall (15519 Phoebe Avenue) 

* Adults: Until tech week, rehearsals will be from 12pm to 8pm Tuesday through Friday.
Rehearsals have been tentatively set for 10am to 6pm on the weekends

PERFORMANCES: Six show week: Thurs. at 7:30pm; Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 2pm & 8pm; Sundays (matinee and evening)

  • Liesl and our von Trapp Children will sing and read for us first. If/when there is additional interest, we will ask you to stay for a 30 minute dance call shortly following.  

  • Movement combination will be the same as the video combination with a few add on surprises the day of.

NOTE: The majority of our cast will be returning actors from the COVID canceled production. The following are the roles we will be casting:

 

Max Detweiller 35-40’s. Male Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Male Identifying Character.

Open to all ethnicities. Charming and vital; a man of sophistication who enjoys the good life; true and loyal friend to the von Trapp family. Baritone C3-F4

Maria Rainer: 28 to 35. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. A postulant at Nonnberg Abbey – young, naive, free spirited, warm, gentle and kind. She is strong minded and witty. An easy way with children. Somewhat of a tomboy. Maria is full of energy. She is a charming, but somewhat gawky country girl. She is still finding her way in the world. Musical theatre mix/soprano.  A3-Bb5. Basic movement.

 

Elsa Schrader 35-40. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Baroness of taste and elegance, sophisticated, dignified, and mature. Mezzo soprano. (C4-B5)

 

Liesl von Trapp: Adult to play 16. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. The oldest child, blossoming into a young lady with an interest in boys. She has a maternal edge to her and cares very deeply for her younger siblings. Musical theater dance training, ballet technique a plus. Mezzo-soprano (B3-E4 All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.”

 

Friedrich von Trapp To play 14. Male Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Male Identifying Character.

Open to all ethnicities. Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the head” of the family. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Soprano range. Must have a high G.

 

Louisa von Trapp To play 13. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Rebellious attitude. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Excellent singer. Soprano range.

 

Kurt von Trapp To play 10, falsetto. Male Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Male Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Gentle and mischievous. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Excellent singer. Soprano range.

 

Brigitta von Trapp To play 9. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. mart, reads a lot. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Excellent singer. Soprano range.

 

Marta von Trapp To play 7. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Very sweet and gentle. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Excellent singer. Soprano range.

 

Gretl von Trapp To play 6. Female Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Must have the cute factor. Endearing and sweet. Basic movement skills. All children, apart from their character description must be able to be conservative with their emotions and “serious.” Strong singer. Soprano range.

 

Ensemble 25-45 years– Female and/or Male Identifying or Non Binary actor to portray Female and/or Male Identifying Character. Open to all ethnicities. Nazi soldiers, neighbors, Salzburg citizens and Georg’s friends (of naval background), new postulant, nuns, novices, postulants and contestants in the Festival Concert. Strong singers. (Legit altos & sopranos). Basic movement skills.
